Is it okay to be vaccinated against COVID-19?

Many people might be surprised that the question is even being posed. What could be wrong about receiving a vaccine, when we know that vaccinations save lives? The moral issue arises from the fact that vaccine development and testing often make use of cell lines derived from either the tissue of aborted fetuses or destroyed human embryos. Therefore, reception of a vaccine developed and produced from this unethical research presents us with a dilemma that seriously engages our conscience. The short answer from our Bishops on whether it's okay to be vaccinated against COVID-10 is: Yes, it is.  Learn more about it from the Bishop's letter re: COVID-19 Vaccine.

I will never take a vaccine that has been developed from aborted babies. Regardless of there being no other option. I value my eternal destination more than my earthly health. I cannot betray my conscience to do this.

Thank you for this enlightenment. I was not aware that aborted fetal lines were used in the development of vaccines. Whether or not they were part of the Covid-19 vaccine development is not made clear, however because the Bishops brought it up I can only assume it is true. As such I cannot adhere to the advice given in the letter and will not accept this or any other vaccine based on this scientific method where aborted fetal tissue is used. We must stand firm to the principles of the Catholic Church. I believe by refusing the vaccine I am adhering to principles and teachings of Jesus Christ and His bride the church.

To my understanding, the following vaccines are available which I have grouped as ethical or unethical:

Ethical: Novavax, Moderna, Merck, Sanofi, Pfizer-BioNTech

Unethical: J&J, AstraZenca, Vaxart.

The canadian govt is using the Pfizer vaccine which does not utilize aborted fetal cells.

There is extensive information regarding vaccines and how they relate to the right to life on www.cogforlife.org. As with most things in our lives discernment of right or wrong science is not easy. This website has articles that indicate that both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines utilized fetal cell lines for confirmatory testing. This is a lesser evil than actually using fetal cell lines to grow the vaccine but still evil none the less. I prefer to risk the disease and accept the consequences of it. COVID 19 is far less dangerous than the media and our government has made it out to be. My body, my choice seems to work for the pro-choice crowd to justify evil, maybe I can use it to justify good.
