Expansion access to MAiD

Together with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), Bishop McGrattan is urging the faithful to continue to oppose the expansion of MAiD in Canada. The CCCB has just issued an Open Letter to the Government of Canada and a Message to the Catholic Faithful on May 9 re: Permitting Persons Living with Mental Illness to Access Euthanasia/Assisted Suicide. Thank you to the CCCB for not using the euphemistic language of "MAID" in its letters. They use assisted suicide and euthanasia (the large majority of people in Canada killed since the legalization of assisted suicide and euthanasia have been by euthanasia, that is where some else administers a lethal injection to the person who wants to be killed, rather than the person taking the drugs him or herself). As George Orwell said in Politics and the English Language regarding word usage:

"But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought. A bad usage can spread by tradition and imitation even among people who should and do know better."

The term MAID is bad usage and makes the reality of euthanasia in the minds of Canadians seem less sinister, less evil, less horrific. People don't realize "MAID" is an act of killing, because of this soft language. They think of it as just another medical procedure.

Orwell further says regarding euphemistic language: "In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defence of the indefensible. ...Thus political language has to consist largely of euphemism, question-begging and sheer cloudy vagueness." This is certainly the case with the use of the term "MAID."

And now we are on the road to murdering mentally ill persons, and one in four Canadians think that state sanctioned murder of people who are in poverty is acceptable:

Is this because the rich man does not want to share his wealth with Lazarus?
