Forty years ago a small group of Catholics laid a brick and mortar foundation for a parish community in Silver Springs. That parish now serves more than 4,000 registered families, seven school communities plus thousands more Catholics. Today, St. Peter’s is 40 years old — and growing. “We’re bursting at the seams!”
St. Peter’s is a vibrant parish that caters to the spiritual needs of people all along life’s journey. With two active mother’s groups and a children’s Mass at 9.30am on Sunday mornings it is obvious that we have a growing number of young families. Both our Knights of Columbus and Catholic Women’s League groups boast large memberships and are very active in parish life. St. Peter's is also known for hosting special events at various times throughout the year in order to boost the spiritual life of the parish as a whole. |
As it is, we celebrate six weekend masses to meet the spiritual needs of our parishioners. Our current sanctuary simply cannot accommodate the growth we've experienced over the years and many people find themselves seated and standing in our narthex separated from the rest of the congregation during the celebration of the Mass. This creates a sense of disconnectedness as some remain at the fringes of parish life. The vision for St. Peter’s renovation began many years ago under the leadership of Bishop Frederick Henry. In 2012, with the purchase of a new rectory for the priests, plans were initiated to renovate the old rectory. This created more meeting spaces, a music room and additional parking. The kitchen and church hall were upgraded, an elevator was installed and the narthex was expanded.

With springtime just around the corner, we are looking forward to putting the finishing touches on this current phase of construction as we expand and resurface the parking lot and finalize our landscaping. To date, we have invested nearly $5 million in the work that has been completed and we are planning creating ways to pay for the incredible transformation of the faith-filled spaces of St. Peter’s.
