Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,The Blessed Mother has been honoured as the first and the greatest of all disciples. United with the heart of God, she became the New Eve who opened the path of grace through the New Adam, the path that was once shut at the fall of Adam and Eve.
At the Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth, she rejoiced in God as she recognized her lowliness and relied on the strength and righteousness of God in bringing justice to the lowly especially to the oppressed and the disadvantaged. When we think of Mary's earthly life, while exalted by the Church as Queen of Heaven and Earth, she always had an outward focus - assisting others and leading souls to her Son. While she experienced the greatest joy in the plan of God, she also bore the deepest pain. But in all these, she was only known for one purpose, God's mission. May we look to our Blessed Mother for guidance and inspiration as we strive to be missionary disciples. May we imitate her in aligning ourselves to the plan of God and hopefully be known for our participation in His mission. May Together in Action be for us a way to bring His mercy and compassion to others. May it be for us a way of exalting God, relying on his strength and righteousness as we recognize our total and complete dependence on Him. Thank you for your generosity. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Rev. William T. McGrattan Bishop of Calgary Vertical Divider
