Supporting Missionary Outreach - Mission Council 2025

The Diocesan Mission Council supports missionary outreach throughout the Diocese of Calgary and beyond. In 2025, the Council continued to coordinate funding for local, national, and international mission initiatives while encouraging Catholics to live their faith through witness, stewardship, and service.

​The Council's work reflects its mission to foster missionary discipleship by helping individuals put their faith into action and by supporting the spiritual and human development of communities in need.

Supporting Local Mission

A significant focus of the Mission Council remains the Diocese of Calgary’s Home Mission, which serves the four First Nations communities within our Diocese:

• St. Paul’s Church, Brocket
• Holy Trinity & St. Mary's Parishes, Cluny
• Immaculate Conception Parish, Standoff
• Our Lady of Peace, Tsuut'ina

Three of these communities operate as full parishes, each supported by dedicated priests, parish staff, parish councils, and active ministries that nurture the spiritual and pastoral life of their communities. The fourth continues to serve as a mission under the care of a nearby city parish, ensuring ongoing pastoral support and sacramental ministry.

Beyond our local outreach, the Mission Council also extended its support to an international missionary initiative this year, reflecting our shared responsibility to accompany communities beyond our diocesan borders and to participate in the universal mission of the Church.

Mission Council Cards: Giving New Life to a Thoughtful Gift

One of the Mission Council's most meaningful initiatives continues to be the Mission Council Cards program. Through the generosity of parishioners and volunteers, donated greeting cards are carefully transformed into beautiful handcrafted cards, giving them a second life and allowing them to once again bring encouragement and joy to others.

​Sold for just $1 each, every card purchased directly supports the Diocese's local mission by helping fund ministry in the four Catholic parishes serving First Nations reserves within the Diocese of Calgary.

This simple initiative demonstrates how small acts of generosity can make a lasting impact. By reusing something beautiful, sharing a heartfelt message, and supporting local mission, volunteers, participating parishes, and parishioners together help strengthen communities and advance the Church's mission.

As we reflect on another year of ministry, we are grateful for the many people who continue to answer Christ's call to mission through prayer, service, and generous giving. Together, we are building relationships, strengthening communities, and sharing the hope of the Gospel both close to home and around the world.
