More than a Meal: Feed the Hungry in 2025

Feed the Hungry is a diocesan outreach ministry that offers weekly meals, care packages, and compassionate accompaniment to individuals and families in need, creating a place of dignity, welcome, and community.

In 2025, Feed the Hungry served 16,700 guests, more than 1,100 above the previous year, while average weekly meal costs decreased by 3.3%. This was made possible by a 62% increase in registered volunteers, who contributed more than 48,000 hours of service. Through every challenge and new beginning, Feed the Hungry remains a model of dignified, community-driven care in our diocese.

For many volunteers, serving is more than an act of charity—it is an expression of faith. As one longtime volunteer reflected, “A Sister once remarked to me that being a Feed the Hungry volunteer and serving our guests is ‘a wonderful way to pray.’ That has become my point of perspective on the program, galvanizing my desire to serve my brothers and sisters, while mentoring those who join us to do the same.”

Feed the Hungry is a ministry of Christ's love made visible in the steady rhythm of Sunday after Sunday. Guests come for a meal, but they are welcomed with dignity, known by name, and reminded that they are not alone.

Behind every Sunday meal is an extraordinary community of volunteers whose generosity makes this ministry possible. As another volunteer shared, “It takes an army of seventy volunteers to run a single Sunday’s Feed the Hungry program! The volunteers we see are familiar, committed faces, grateful for the chance to serve. They consistently reflect a strong sense of community, and their impact is visible in real time. We are incredibly grateful for this program and deeply appreciate our volunteers for their time, dedication, and service.”

​Each Sunday offers more than hope. It offers proof: that love, even in its smallest acts, rearranges a life; that joy, shared across a table, is contagious; and that in a world that often rushes past the hungry, the tired, and the forgotten, there is still a place where people stop, stay, and serve.
